• Details: The Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) has defined 55 Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) that critically contribute to the characterisation of the Earth's climate. Of these 55 ECVs, around two thirds can be derived using satellite data, providing users with near-global coverage over decadal time scales.
